Radio Frequency Microneedling Skin Rejuvenation
Under the supervision of Dr. Warren Ross, our staff of registered nurses and licensed estheticians is highly skilled in using the Genius radio frequency microneedling device to tighten and renew your skin.
Radio frequency microneedling is a noninvasive and nonsurgical procedure that delivers a precisely measured and controlled amount of energy to your treatment area. This allows our practitioners to target your skin concerns without the pain, side effects or downtime of other treatments and procedures.
This treatment works by penetrating your skin with ultrafine needles to deliver radio frequency energy deep beneath the skin’s surface. This thermal energy stimulates the production of collagen, a protein fiber responsible for giving your skin its structure and elasticity. At the same time, the tiny punctures jump-start your body’s wound-healing process to encourage the growth of smoother, tighter skin.

Before & Afters
Results aren’t immediately visible following radio frequency microneedling. You should begin to notice an improvement in your skin within the first 2 weeks following your procedure.
Because your body takes time to increase collagen production, improvement to your skin laxity and texture will become gradually visible within 2–4 months of your first treatment.
Our practitioners will work with you to determine the number of treatments you’ll require to achieve your desired results. Typically, you will undergo 2–4 procedures between intervals of 4 to 6 weeks for best results.
Results will remain visible for 1–2 years, depending on the concern being treated. As part of your customized treatment plan, we will provide you with instructions for prolonging your results and advice on when you should schedule a maintenance procedure.
What Happens During Treatment?
Before your scheduled treatment, you should refrain from alcohol use and discontinue any NSAID medication. It is also advised that you stop using cosmetic products containing salicylic acid for 7 days prior to your appointment.
If you are taking blood-thinning medication, please inform our practitioners during your initial consultation; this medication can increase the likelihood of bleeding and bruising following your procedure.
At the start of your treatment, your practitioner will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. Your practitioner will begin pressing the Genius device against the skin to create tiny perforations through which the radio frequency energy is delivered.
The sensations of warmth and pinpricks are expected during the procedure, but you shouldn’t feel any pain or severe discomfort.
After treatment, your practitioner may apply a calming mask or balm.
The entire procedure typically takes between 20–30 minutes, with the full appointment requiring no more than about 1 hour between preparation and post-treatment care.
Radio Frequency Microneedling Recovery and Aftercare
Downtime is minimal following your treatment and you will be able to return to work the day after your appointment.
Side effects are mild and a direct result of the wound-healing process triggered by your body’s response to the procedure. You may experience light:
- Pinpoint bleeding
- Skin redness
- Swelling
- Tenderness
You can expect your side effects to clear up within 1–3 days following treatment.
As your skin heals, it is recommended to use an SPF 30 titanium dioxide or zinc oxide sunscreen. Avoid harsh cosmetic and skin care products, such as exfoliants or products containing glycolic or alpha hydroxy acid, for a few days after treatment, and avoid applying makeup to protect your healing skin while it’s still sensitive. You are also advised to use a gentle skin cleanser and moisturizer to keep your skin clean and healthy as it heals.
Related Treatments
Our team will develop a unique treatment plan based on your needs, concerns and conditions. We may suggest additional or alternative treatments to radio frequency microneedling in order to improve your experience and results.
Because radio frequency microneedling creates puncture channels in your skin, it provides an excellent opportunity to improve the efficacy of other treatments, such as botulinum toxin A injections, hyaluronic acid fillers and chemical peels by enhancing the delivery depth of the additional treatment.
Additional or alternative treatments to radio frequency microneedling include:
- Botulinum toxin A injections such as Botox, Jeauveau, Dysport or Xeomin, which temporarily paralyze the muscles responsible for creating wrinkles and folds
- Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM, Restylane and Revance, which restore your skin’s volume and plumpness
- Chirally correct chemical peels are gentle chemical peels that even out your skin and reduce signs of aging
- Laser/intense pulsed light is a noninvasive procedure that uses a combination of laser and light technologies to improve skin contour, laxity, texture and tone
- JuVaShape body contouring is a noninvasive procedure that uses radio frequency energy to tighten loose skin and reduce lines and wrinkles
- Plasma IQ is a procedure that uses microbeams of plasma to tighten skin and reduce the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines
- Epidermal leveling/dermaplaning provides exfoliation to remove the topmost layer of skin to smooth its texture and rejuvenate the skin’s tissue
We may also make other recommendations based on your health, lifestyle and skin care routine. In some cases, we encourage our patients to meet with a nutritionist (located in our building) who can recommend changes to their diet to improve and benefit skin health.

FAQs
How is radio frequency microneedling different from other microneedling procedures?
This procedure improves upon the efficacy of microneedling by including radio frequency energy. The heat generated by this energy is delivered deep into the skin by the puncture channels created by microneedling, improving and stimulating collagen production.
Will radio frequency microneedling leave “grid marks” on my face?
No, negative effects such as grid marks are not created when performed by experienced and skilled experts. Our team is well-practiced in using and controlling the microneedling device to best prioritize your comfort, safety and satisfaction.
How does at-home radio frequency microneedling compare to an in-office procedure?
We provide treatment that combines cutting-edge medical-grade equipment with years of experience. Although some at-home radio frequency microneedling devices can have some degree of effectiveness at improving your skin, they cannot compare to the quality of the technologies used, nor the procedures performed, by a dedicated staff of registered nurses and licensed estheticians.
Does insurance cover radio frequency microneedling?
Cosmetic procedures, such as radio frequency microneedling, aren’t typically covered by health insurance policies. Most importantly, Skin Therapeutics does not accept insurance.
