- Hair loss can occur for many reasons including hormonal changes, illness, genetics or as a natural part of aging
- PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy uses a solution made with a patient’s own blood to safely and effectively restore hair growth
- PRP therapy has minimal side effects and requires no downtime
While some choose to accept natural hair loss, others may find this to be a source of embarrassment and seek treatment to encourage hair regrowth. If this sounds relatable, then PRP hair restoration with Selphyl may be a solution for you.

PRP Hair Restoration With Sephyl at Skin Therapeutics
PRP therapy is a treatment by which platelets—the blood cells responsible for wound healing—are extracted from a small sample of your blood. Our practitioners prepare a solution from these platelets, which is then injected into key points of your scalp to encourage hair regrowth.
We use the revolutionary Selphyl System to prepare an ultra-pure PRP formula known as PRFM (platelet-rich fibrin matrix). This formula contains virtually no contamination from red and white blood cells, which can sometimes cause inflammation during PRP therapy. Selphyl also alters the structure of platelets in a manner that makes them even more effective at stimulating hair regrowth than standard PRP formulas.
Because it harnesses the body’s own cells and natural healing ability to achieve results, PRP therapy is very safe. This treatment requires no downtime, causes minimal irritation or pain and is shown to effectively reverse hair loss after a series of treatments.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for PRP Hair Restoration With Selphyl?
This treatment is safe and well-suited for men and women of all ages and skin types, but is most effective for those who have experienced recent hair loss. A hair follicle falls dormant when it loses its ability to produce new hair, and the longer it is dormant, the more difficult it becomes to stimulate new hair growth.
Those with late-stage progressive male pattern baldness, certain blood clotting disorders or an active infection or skin disease on the scalp should not undergo PRP therapy.

What to Expect From the Procedure
To begin, one of our practitioners will draw a small sample of your blood. This sample will then be processed using the Selphyl System to draw out impurities and restructure the platelets. The resulting solution is then strategically reinjected into specific points of your scalp to stimulate and reactivate your dormant hair follicles.
Immediately after treatment, you may experience some minor irritation, tenderness and redness near injection points on the scalp. No downtime is involved; however you will be advised to keep your hair dry for 72 hours following treatment, and to avoid exercising or showering during this period.
Three treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart are usually required before results become apparent; most patients will see modest regrowth. This growth typically continues to increase in density for up to 6–12 months after the last treatment. A follow-up appointment around this time can help assess the need for additional treatments.
How Much Do Hair Restoration Treatments Cost?
Our hair restoration treatments are typically sold in packages of three. Depending on your individual needs, the size of the treatment area and the extent of the hair loss, the price of a package will range from $1,500–$3,000.

FAQ
What is the success rate of PRP hair restoration?
A 2020 review of several studies on PRP hair restoration treatment found that of these studies, 84% of the participants reported positive results from treatment and 34% found an increase in hair density. The review found PRP to be a safe and effective hair restoration treatment option, on par in effectiveness with medications such as minoxidil and finasteride.

What are the side effects of PRP therapy?
As the PRP formula is obtained from the body itself, allergic reactions are not likely.
Minor irritation, discomfort and redness are common side effects of PRP hair restoration treatments. Other side effects are rare, and may include injury to blood vessels and pinpoint bleeding at the points of injection, which can lead to infection, calcification and scarring.
These side effects are more likely to occur as a result of an unskilled care provider. At Skin Therapeutics, our certified professionals are committed to ensuring your comfort and safety, and will perform this treatment with utmost care.
Do patients relapse with hair loss after treatment?
Yes, some patients may experience renewed hair loss months or even years after treatment. Underlying medical conditions, poor nutrition and unhealthy lifestyle habits are the most common reasons for this.
Patients who experience hair loss after treatment can always return for follow-up treatments. However, we recommend that they speak with their primary care physicians first, to rule out an underlying health issue that could be the cause of their relapse.
What are some other hair restoration treatment options?
Prescription oral medications such as minoxidil and finasteride are other common solutions to hair loss with a similar success rate to PRP hair restoration. However, these medications may cause some severe side effects, such as chronic headaches, unwanted hair growth, loss of libido and fetal developmental issues in pregnant women.
Of note is that PRP therapy has also been observed to successfully restore hair growth in patients for whom treatments with prescription medication were unsuccessful.
