As you age, vital components in your skin begin to diminish or break down. Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance within your body that can retain multiple times its own weight in water and moisture, degrades more quickly with each passing year. At the same time, collagen production—a protein that keeps your skin taut—slows down as existing collagen fibers degrade and weaken.
The result is loose, saggy skin, diminished skin volume and an increase in folds, wrinkles and lines.
Injectable fillers, such as JUVÉDERM, can smooth these folds and lines, restore youthful plumpness, reduce signs of aging and provide you with a more youthful appearance.
Skin Therapeutics’ team of registered nurses and licensed estheticians, under the supervision of Dr. Warren Ross has helped thousands of our patients reduce the signs of aging with JUVÉDERM dermal fillers, the #1 collection of hyaluronic acid fillers in the US.

Who Is JUVÉDERM for?
We approach your skin health through a complete inside-out approach, combining medical procedures with aesthetic treatments. We know that each of our patients is unique and custom-tailor a treatment regimen that targets each of their skin concerns and conditions.
During your initial consultation our highly-trained team of practitioners may recommend JUVÉDERM for you. Ideally, this treatment is recommended for those 21 years or older who seek to reduce the appearance of:
- Facial wrinkles and folds
- Marionette, smile and parentheses lines around the nose and face
- Thin lips
- Creases and lines around the lips and mouth
- Lost volume in the cheeks and temples
JUVÉDERM Treatment Areas
JUVÉDERM isn’t a single dermal filler, but a collection of fillers, each of which targets a specific condition and/or treatment area.
Depending on your needs and concerns, our team will work with you to determine the specific JUVÉDERM product or combination of JUVÉDERM fillers needed to restore volume and smooth folds and wrinkles.
The JUVÉDERM line of products can be used to address and treat specific areas:
Treatment Area | JUVÉDERM Product(s) | Purpose |
Face | JUVÉDERM XC and JUVÉDERM VOLLURE | Smooths and fills moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds (folds around the nose) |
Cheeks | JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC | Deep injection into the cheek to restore volume and improve chin profile |
Lips | JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC and JUVÉDERM Ultra XC | Plumps lips and smooths lines in perioral (mouth) area |
Before and Afters
Results of JUVÉDERM treatment are immediately visible following treatment. Because JUVÉDERM is made with cross-linked hyaluronic acid—a type of formulation that creates a stronger network of hyaluronic acid molecules—it breaks down and is reabsorbed by your body more slowly than noncross-linked types of hyaluronic acid. This means results last for 1 year or more, depending on the treatment area and specific product used.
In general, patients only need one treatment for optimal results. For more severe wrinkles and lines, a repeat or touch-up treatment may be recommended for best results, although subsequent treatments tend to require less filler gel than the initial injection.
Why We Use JUVÉDERM
We recommend and use JUVÉDERM dermal fillers because they provide a natural look that isn’t overdone, with minimal to no downtime.
Beyond smoothing and plumping your skin, the hyaluronic acid present within JUVÉDERM fillers may also stimulate collagen production. Collagen is a protein that forms into rope-like fibers and provides your skin with structure as well as maintains its smooth contour and firmness.
The concentration of hyaluronic acid is higher in JUVÉDERM compared to that of other dermal fillers, including bovine collagen fillers. This results in increased longevity of results, less frequent treatments and less solution used per treatment, giving you long-lasting results at a more cost-effective price.
To recap, the hyaluronic acid within JUVÉDERM serves a dual-purpose: it plumps and hydrates skin while simultaneously renewing collagen production. This results in a natural and more youthful appearance that doesn’t look artificial or overdone.
Are JUVÉDERM Fillers Safe?
We prioritize your safety and comfort throughout every step of the treatment process. Our staff is experienced with working with the JUVÉDERM collection of injectable dermal fillers, which use natural, nonanimal based hyaluronic acid to restore volume and elasticity to your skin. The treatment itself is noninvasive and nonsurgical, keeping recovery time and aftercare to a minimum.
JUVÉDERM injectable gel fillers were created by Allergan, the makers of Botox and have been FDA-approved since 2006. JUVÉDERM was among the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedures in recent years.
When administered by trained and qualified practitioners such as our expert team, JUVÉDERM’s side effects are mild to moderate and include:
- Tenderness
- Swelling
- Firmness
- Lumps and bumps
- Bruising
- Pain
- Redness and discoloration
- Itching
Side effects may vary based on the specific treatment site and JUVÉDERM filler used during your procedure.
In general, mild-to-moderate side effects tend to clear up within 14 days following JUVÉDERM XC and JUVÉDERM Ultra XC treatment. Moderate side effects may follow JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC treatment, which last between 2 to 4 weeks. Side effects from JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC are mild to moderate and last for less than 30 days.
Because hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance, it’s unlikely you’ll have an allergic reaction to the injection, which means you won’t need to undergo an allergy test prior to treatment.
By addressing the entirety of your skin’s health at every step of the way, we work to minimize the likelihood of side effects and maximize the results of your treatment. We are mindful of your comfort and strive to deliver a treatment that is as pain-free and comfortable as possible.
What to Expect From Your Treatment
In the days and weeks ahead of your treatment, our practitioners will discuss your needs, concerns and treatment areas to tailor a treatment plan that’s right for you. Because we approach skin aesthetics with a fully integrated approach, we’ll recommend solutions for you that meet your lifestyle and budget while improving both the appearance and health of your skin.
We will take into account your skin care routine, diet and medical history; we will work with you to develop a plan that delivers long-term results that continues beyond your JUVÉDERM injection.
At the start of your JUVÉDERM treatment, we’ll begin by cleaning the treatment area. Topical anesthesia may also be administered if you’ve requested it, although JUVÉDERM XC, VOLUMA XC and Ultra XC contain the anesthetic lidocaine to help reduce any pain or discomfort during the injection.
Our practitioners will then inject a precise amount of solution into the treatment area, massaging the skin around the injection site to ensure an even distribution of the filler. Depending on the size of the treatment area, you may need multiple injections for optimal results.
Overall, the entire process lasts between 15 minutes to 1 hour and you’re free to return to your regular activities immediately after treatment, but should refrain from exercise, heavy lifting or anything strenuous until the next day.
You should also avoid microdermabrasion, laser or IPL treatment for at least 1 week after undergoing a JUVÉDERM injection.
Alternatives to JUVÉDERM
We understand that JUVÉDERM isn’t for everyone, or may be only one aspect of rejuvenating and renewing your skin and appearance. In other cases, you may not qualify for JUVÉDERM fillers.
Fortunately, our practitioners are skilled in administering a variety of alternative treatments that will meet your needs, improve your skin health and leave you feeling refreshed and renewed.
Dermal fillers are often combined with Botox injections, which function by temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for forming creases and lines in your skin. By pairing Botox with JUVÉDERM, your skin can have a smoother contour, improved volume and a dramatic reduction in wrinkles and folds.
Better still, Botox may reduce the rate at which hyaluronic acid fillers break down, increasing the length of time your results are visible and minimizing how often you need a follow-up injection.
Complementary or alternative treatments to JUVÉDERM include:
- Restylane or Revance, other hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers that restore volume and plumpness to skin
- Jeuveau, Dysport or Xeomin, injectables that use different botulinum toxin A formulas
- Radio frequency microneedling, a minimally-invasive procedure that uses radio frequency energy to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and rejuvenate the skin
- Laser/Intense Pulsed Light, a noninvasive treatment that uses a combination of technologies to tighten skin, even out skin color and improve texture and contour
- Chirally correct chemical peels, a gentle and effective type of chemical peel to even out the skin and reduce signs of aging (such as wrinkles and fine lines)
- Epidermal leveling/dermaplaning, a type of exfoliation that removes the topmost layer of skin to smooth its texture and rejuvenate the tissue
- Plasma IQ, a treatment that uses microbeams of plasma to tighten the skin, reducing wrinkles and fine lines
To fully address both the aesthetic and medical conditions of your skin, we may also recommend changes to your skin care routine and product regimen. We may also recommend you visit a nutritionist (located in our same building) who can help you make changes to your diet designed to improve your skin health in combination with the treatments we provide.

JUVÉDERM FAQs
Are the results from JUVÉDERM permanent?
No. Like other nonsurgical aesthetic procedures, JUVÉDERM fillers do not provide permanent results. However, results are immediately visible following your treatment, and will remain visible for upwards of 1 year.
We are always available to discuss a touch-up or maintenance treatment once results begin to become less visible. Subsequent treatments are an expected part of getting dermal fillers, and typically require less substance to maintain your results.
At what age should I start getting JUVÉDERM?
Our staff is experienced in working with patients of all ages and is pleased to discuss JUVÉDERM fillers with patients 21 years of age or older. If you are just starting to see signs of aging, you may begin treatment early to reduce these signs and maintain a youthful appearance.
If you are in your later years and unhappy with sagging, loose skin, wrinkles, creases, folds or loss of volume, please contact us for a consultation to discuss JUVÉDERM and other treatments designed to address these skin concerns.
How does JUVÉDERM compare to other dermal fillers?
JUVÉDERM is comparable to other dermal fillers, such as Restylane. The biggest difference is in terms of texture: JUVÉDERM fillers have a smoother texture which means they can more easily fill in smaller folds. In contrast, Restylane’s solution is more malleable and requires your practitioner to mold it into the desired shape and contour, but may deliver a more fuller look.
JUVÉDERM creates a more immediately visible result following treatment, whereas Restylane may take a few days before results are apparent. Furthermore, because JUVÉDERM uses a higher concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid, results should last longer than products that use a less concentrated formula, such as Restylane.
Does insurance cover JUVÉDERM fillers?
Health insurance typically doesn’t cover cosmetic treatments such as dermal fillers. Additionally, Skin Therapeutics does not accept insurance.
