What is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® is the first and only injectable treatment approved by the FDA to improve the appearance and profile of submental fat, or “double chin,” in adults.

Submental fullness is a common facial aesthetic condition that affects a broad range of men and women. Several factors can contribute to fullness beneath the chin, including aging, genetics, and weight gain – and rarely do diet and exercise alone resolve the condition.

How Does It Work?

KYBELLA®’s active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in the body and aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When KYBELLA® is injected into the fat beneath your chin, it causes the destruction of fat cells; once those cells are destroyed, they cannot store or accumulate fat. The result: a more defined profile!

What is the Treatment Regimen?

KYBELLA® is administered into the fat under your chin using multiple injections in a series of treatment sessions. While many patients see results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions, up to 6 sessions may be administered, each spaced at least one month apart. Our practitioner will work with you to customize your treatment regimen according to your desired chin profile.

Skin Therapeutics offers the following natural, non-animal based fillers for a safe, effective way to restore fullness and to regain a more youthful facial appearance.

JUVÉDERM®

JUVÉDERM® is dermal filler used to fill and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. JUVÉDERM® is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in the body that helps maintain skin volume and hydration as well as joint lubrication and cushioning. Hyaluronic acid retains moisture, absorbing more than 1,000 times its weight in water. It also binds with collagen and elastin, transporting essential nutrients to these fibers that make up much of the support structure of the skin.

JUVÉDERM® is the #1 selling collection of hyaluronic acid fillers in the US. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers adds volume to a different area of the face to lift cheeks, smooth parentheses lines, or plump the lips. The results are natural looking and long lasting.

The JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). What’s interesting about HA is that it’s a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA.

If you’re still concerned about treatment discomfort, your aesthetic specialist may offer additional anesthetic options for you.

The most common side effects include tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. With JUVÉDERM® XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC injectable gels, most side effects are mild or moderate and last 14 days or less. For JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, side effects are moderate (uncomfortable) and last 2 to 4 weeks. For JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC, side effects were predominantly mild or moderate, with a duration of 30 days or less.

One of the risks with using this product is unintentional injection into a blood vessel, and while rare, the complications can be serious and may be permanent. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.
